Reviews

Fantastic overview of Vermeer’s work. A very brief biography (very little is known about him) followed by enlightening but brief summaries of each of his paintings. But where this book really shines is in focusing on the details in the paintings. The faces, floors, windows, everyday objects, furniture and other paintings that appear in his works are zoomed in on which gives you the opportunity to see the works anew and marvel at the artist’s abilities. It’s amazing to see these details in isolation - the skill that brings these details to life left me awestruck - “how did he do that ?” The book gave me a new appreciation for Vermeer, and allowed me to see is paintings with fresh eyes. Great photos. Well done. I have a lot of books on Vermeer - this is the best
